Doug Coplan Wins His First of the Year

Doug Colplan wins his first of the year

Doug Coplan has been a consistent competitor throughout the year. Holding 2nd or 3rd place overall in the race for angler of the year through the entire season, a first place win has always been just past his finger tips... Until now. Doug and amateur partner Nathan Koreny brought in a limit weighing 9.80 lbs. to take first place at Fool Hollow Lake on August 25th and gain a few points to widen his 2nd place standing over 3rd place Stan Culling. Doug is still about 15 points shy of 1st place Johnny Johnson, and with only one tournament left in the regular season, he's got his work cut out to win that Angler of the Year award. In the amateur division, Nathan is jetting away from the competition, with his nearest competitor being a comfortable 39 points away.

Stan currently holds 3rd place overall, just a little under 4 points behind 2nd place Doug Coplan (senior). Doug Coplan Jr. managed to catch the big one of the day at 4.74 lbs. A 2nd place win and a Big Fish award has surely made dad proud.

Johnny Johnson 3rd

3rd place goes to television host Johnny Johnson and amateur partner Larry Kress weighing in just a few ounces shy of 2nd place at 7.70 pounds. Johnny has placed in the money in every single tournament this year and holds 1st place overall. With just one regular season tournament left and a 15 point spread between him and 2nd place Doug Coplan, things are looking good for last year's champ. Coming on strong, amateur Larry Kress has now placed in the money three tournaments in a row, including a 1st place win last month at Willow Springs.
